Where there is human
behavior, there is human error. The kinds of errors we make
(and the frequency with which we make them) can inform us
on how cognitive processes work (or rather, fail). My
research is on cognitive control, which is defined as the
ability to coordinate thoughts and actions with internal
goals and the environment. I focus on how we are able to
flexibly and continuously update those action goals based
on external feedback and from internal representations,
e.g. from past experiences and expectations for the future.
The purpose of my research is not to determine what the
neural mechanisms are for detecting and correcting errors
per se, but more generally to study the functional
organization of prefrontal cortex.
