SUMMARY:Women in Science: Policy Implementation & Leadership w/ Dania Daye and Julie Price
DESCRIPTION:This event has been developed to learn more about policy implementation and\nleadership at MGH and the Martinos Center with Dania Daye\, MD\, PhD and Julie\nPrice\, PhD\, with the MGH Department of Radiology Diversity\, Equity and\nInclusion Committee\, which is committed to addressing disparities and\nenhancing equity in local communities. Julie Price also a leader at the MGH\nCenter for Diversity and Inclusion. \nFollowing the effort at HMS to include service in groups working towards\nimproving diversity\, equity\, and inclusion (DEI) in STEM as supporting\nactivity for the promotion process\, we recognized that we knew very little\nabout the steps necessary to implement policy. WiS members had been\ninterested in creating policy change and realized that we could learn from\nexperts. We will hear about previous policy efforts from our speakers and\nwill leave substantial time for discussion in the hope that this event will\nhelp motivate and empower all who seek cultural changes in academia and in\nthe world. \nThe WiS Committee recognizes that those who are under-represented usually\nundertake the work necessary to make important advances in DEI but often\nremain invisible. Importantly\, the time and effort are not often accounted\nfor\, or fully understood by those who have traditionally held positions of\npower. We hope that this event might inspire those interested in DEI work but\nwho have not yet taken up participation in the many relevant groups serving\nHarvard/MGH due to not knowing how to effect change or what to do in the face\nof the glacial pace that we must face in relation to social justice\,\ninclusion\, and fairness for all in the workplace and beyond. \nPlease be sure to register here \nhttps://zoom.us/j/94703722506 \nLearn more about the Women in Science group and its many activities here.
