Dr. Susie Huang, Director
Susie Huang, MD, PhD, is a neuroradiologist and Associate Director of the Athinoula A. Martinos Center for Biomedical Imaging at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she holds the James L. and Elisabeth C. Gamble Endowed Chair. She is an Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School and Co-Director of Mass General Neuroscience. She earned her A.B. and A.M. degrees in Chemistry from Harvard University, summa cum laude, her Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles, and her M.D. magna cum laude from Harvard Medical School. She completed her residency in Radiology and fellowship in Neuroradiology at MGH, serving as both Chief Resident and Chief Fellow.
An internationally recognized expert in MRI technology development and translation, Dr. Huang’s research focuses on advancing diffusion MRI for in vivo histological sensitivity and applying high-performance imaging to neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and brain injury. She directs programs within MGB Radiology focused on high-efficiency MRI and leads the multi-institutional NIH BRAIN Initiative U01/U24 Connectome 2.0 program. As principal investigator, she has secured more than $35 million in research funding over the past decade, with a portfolio spanning MRI physics, biomarker validation, and clinical translation.
Dr. Huang serves on the Board of Trustees of the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine (ISMRM) and is Deputy Editor of Magnetic Resonance in Medicine for diffusion and quantitative imaging. She has held numerous leadership roles in scientific organizations, chaired national and international workshops, and served on numerous NIH and Department of Defense study sections and international grant review panels. She has served as a member of the editorial boards of American Journal of Neuroradiology, eLife, and Imaging Neuroscience and has been recognized as a Distinguished Reviewer for the AJNR.
Her honors include the I.I. Rabi Finalist Award from the ISMRM, Young Investigator Award from the ESMRMB, Distinguished Investigator Award from the Academy for Radiology and Biomedical Imaging Research, the Thrall Mentor Award from MGH, and election as a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering.
Hope Taft, Executive Director
As executive director of the Martinos Center, Hope Taft oversees Center operations and strategy, with a focus on accelerating and diversifying research through internal and external partnerships and programs. She brings to the role a depth of experience in in biotechnology- and healthcare-related industries, where she operated in complex business environments and interacted with other companies, government agencies and academic centers. Hope received a BA in Political Science and International Studies the University of Richmond and an MBA in Health Sector Management from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University. She has worked as a paralegal conducting strategic immigration planning, for Duke University Hospital, and for the global healthcare research firm Evidera. Prior to joining the Martinos Center, she spent five years with Medtronic, the world’s largest MedTech company. At Medtronic she served in a variety of roles, including government affairs fellow, global product manager for transcatheter aortic valve Implantation (TAVI) devices, and senior manager in business development for the Neuromodulation group.
Monica Langone, Administrative Director
A member of the Martinos Center for more than 15 years, Monica Langone today serves as its administrative director, with direct oversight and management of all administrative functions and a primary focus on financial operations and research administration. With continued robust growth of the Center, she is currently overseeing process improvement to help increase efficiency and productivity.
Monica joined the Center as its financial manager, tasked with implementing policies and controls to manage all facets of financial management for a burgeoning research institution. Previously, she held several accounting positions in the financial services and real estate sectors.
She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
