Laurentius Huber, aka Renzo is a PI at the Martinos Center and an Assistant Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School. He joined Martinos
center in summer 2025 as the Neuroscience Director of the MGB 7T center. In this role, Renzo aims to facilitate high-quality (functional)
neuroimaging across three human 7T scanners.
In his layer-group, his interest include:
-> Making layer-fMRI a turn-key imaging tool for neuroscience applications.
-> High-resolution fMRI readout and analysis method development.
-> Whole brain layer-fMRI.
-> Functional mapping of blood volume with VASO
-> Developing and facilitating good standards of high-resolution acquisition, reconstruction, and processing.
At the Martinos Center, Renzo is working most closely with the Lab of Computational Neuroscience, and the Magnetic Resonance Physics &
Instrumentation Group.
Renzo’s background is:
-> 2022-2025: Staff scientist at NIH in Peter Bandettini’s FMRI facility. In this role, he was heading the layer-fMRI research group at NIH.
-> 2019-2021: VENI-Fellow in Benedikt Poser’s MR-methods group. In 2021, Renzo became a tenured Assistant professor (UD2) at the Maastricht
University.
-> 2015-2018: Post-Doc with Peter Bandettini at NIH.
-> 2025: PhD in physics at the Max Planck Institute in Leipzig, Germany working with Bob Turner and Harald Moeller.
